I thought the book was good. I was wrapped up in the story but did find it longer than it really needed to be. The book also needs a good editing as there were several grammatical errors that I found distracted from the story. I also felt the dialogue was a little too stiff. Who uses the word fairly (fairly ran up the stairs, fairly buzzing) anymore? It seemed a little too proper for my liking. I also didn't like the fact that the characters said they wouldn't keep anything from Nerissa anymore and they kept doing it much to her detriment at times. I also felt that as a cop, Narissa's brother wasn't all that bright when he should have been. If the book was cleaned up, I'd happily change my review to 4 stars.

More Than Scars eBook Sarah Brocious Reviews

More Than Scars was a very sweet and modern day fairytale. It had me sighing one moment and anxious the next.
The characters were very likeable and well thought out.
This was a heartwarming story about learning to trust, that not all those around you will break you if given the chance and also learning to let go. Believing that you can find faith in that one person who will be your saving grace and you theirs, was a part of this happily ever after.
Amazing job Sarah )
Just an all around amazing story here! With a "Beauty and the Beast" vibe and amazing sitting skills, I literally could not stop reading this book! I just had to know what happened next. It was very well written and had the perfect set of characters! Can't wait to read another book from this authoress!
I enjoyed the storyline, but it was hampered by the writing. In places it sounds like the author is not a native English speaker because of awkward phrasing. There are numerous errors in the typing - missing quotation marks, commas, wrong words, change in tense. Seriously needs to be edited and cleaned up, looks like about the level of a high school student in a hurry who didn't read over what they typed. But I enjoyed the story itself for the most part.
I've read several remakes of fairy tales before. I have to say, this is by far the best I have read. When you first begin reading, you know the fairy tale it is based on. However, the story does not go along the normal fairy tale route. Very good character development. It contained a number of surprising developments in the story line. I'm not a type for suspenseful stories, but the suspense in this story was just the right amount. You are there rooting for the characters from the beginning.

I hope she writes a follow up story for the brother. He needs his own fairy tale ending.
This was such a surprising read. A story about scars that take time to heal, and the trust that needs to be built. All on love that can overcome it all.

Nerissa and Liam are two souls that have gone through so much in their lives, with all their tragedies comes scars. Some more visual than others. It takes over on whom they become throughout the years.

I love how Rissa challenged Liam out of his comfort zone. Pushing his boundaries along with making him grow for his behalf. Never giving up in trying to make him see his own true worth and loving him for it and nothing more.
Liam of course was a little harder to sell because of his insecurities, but he was such a gentle soul. And those insecurities were the main crutch of the story.
They complemented each other very nicely and you could sense that within the story.

Ms. Brocious did a fantastic job creating the Beauty and the Beast approach with this read. Great job, Ms. Brocious. And I absolutely love the cover!
More than Scars is very much a character driven story. Forget the plot, this isn't about plot. this is about the growth of the characters. From the two main leads, to those that surround them, they all carry their own special personalities.
There is a bit of plot, but it really isn't central to the story. The plot focuses on two things, getting the two leads together, and a mystery that I won't really get into because it doesn't play too much until the third act.
What matters is that the two leads are both haunted, scarred in their own separate ways. This is a story about their healing. Yes the romance is at the front, but it isn't forced it's natural. Sarah Brocious allows the characters to develop their own relationship. Every now and then there will be a bit of a push from the plot to hurry up the growth, but even then it doesn't feel forced but just a bit of incentive. Don't read for the plot, but for the characters, because that is what makes this story so amazing and cheesy (I love cheesy, I shall admit it) and quirky and just fun.
One of the bads, that did not but me but may bug others, is that there are some errors that could have been smoothed out. I'm not one to be bothered by grammatical errors, but I know there are those that are.
