This is a beautiful story about death and reincarnation. It is an excellent way to explain your beliefs or even different beliefs. I tell my kids that I don' know what happens after death, no one does. So we explore different beliefs and talk about what we feel to be true. I have read this book again and again. I really can't describe how nicely written and simple it is.Tags : Mountains of Tibet, The [Mordicai Gerstein] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. ‘This story of the death and reincarnation of a Tibetan woodcutter is a beautifully gentle look at one human being dealing with life’s choices and possibilities.’ —SLJ. ‘The impact of its peaceful message will reverberate long after the last page is read.’ —H. <awards> Outstanding Children's Books of 1987 (NYT)<br />Best Illustrated Children's Books of 1987 (NYT)<br />Notable 1987 Children's Trade Books in Social Studies (NCSS/CBC)<br />1988 Choices (Association of Booksellers for Children)<br />1987 Choices: The Year's Best Books (Publishers Weekly)<br />1987 Children's Books (NY Public Library)</awards>,Mordicai Gerstein,Mountains of Tibet, The,HarperColl,0064432114,Religious - General,Social Themes - Death & Dying,Reincarnation;Fiction.,Tibet (China);Fiction.,Children's BooksAges 9-12 Fiction,Children: Grades 2-3,Fiction,General,Juvenile Fiction,Juvenile Fiction Religious General,Juvenile Fiction Social Themes Death & Dying,Juvenile Nonfiction History Asia,Reincarnation,Tibet (China)

Happy book, simple explanation of reincarnation for children.
The best children's book ever--I read this to my daughters frequently when they were growing up. This copy was purchased for my future granddaughter, Brynlee Beth.
This is one of the sweetest children's books ever - I've given it to many people to welcome their wee bundles of joy into the world.
This is a beloved book my daughter had as a child that I recently gave as a baby shower gift (the clever parents-to-be asked for a favorite book inscribed with wishes instead of a card - an instant library of memories!). The original I had was larger and with a dust jacket, but frankly that is not a real issue for kid's books these days, and may be more practical. It is an incredible message for anyone - child or adult - with lovely illustrations.
This beautifully illustrated book is suitable to both younger and older readers. Based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead, it leads from old age and death to the intermediate stage between lives, the choices available to us in choosing a new birth, and the return to incarnation. For those who believe in reincarnation and karma, it offers a simple, instructive, beautiful glimpse of some of the process of our unfoldment.
I love this book. I don't care what religion you are or are not, this book is full of beautiful illustrations and a lovely interpretation of what some people may believe happens in the afterlife. It's sweet, beautiful, and an opportunity to talk about your own family's beliefs/ideas/lack of belief and what you think or wonder about life and death. I see this as an opening to great explorations and conversations.
Wonderful book- very life affirming. This was one of my children's favorite books, and then, when my mother in law was dying, we ordered it for my husband to read to her as she was in hospice. It was a very good experience, for both my husband and my mother in law. This very gentle book is good for readers of all ages, and it worked as well, for us, at the beginning of life as it did at the end. What more could you ask of a book?
