Bodie Anne SweazyKulju Books

Sweazy-Kulju writes a para-normal mystery that spans the old west town of Bodie with the modern day and two sisters living in Oregon. Bodie was a rough and tumble western town that saw a murder a day, or at least it felt that way to the residents. The story starts out in Bodie and it appears that there is a murder taking place, but we aren't sure.

Then we switch to the modern day and two sisters who both have the same recurring dream about the murder of a woman in the old west. The sisters Lainy and Lara are pushed to investigate and pushed to understand why they would both have the same dream over and over again. Is there a connection to them that the para-normal is trying to pull to their attention?

The book is well written, although I thought it started out a bit slow and took me a bit to get into it. But then the pace picks up and you become enthralled with wanting to know what happened in the Old West and why are these two sisters being drawn in.

If you like mystery and some para-normal psychology then you will love this book.

Enjoy!

Bodie Anne SweazyKulju Books Reviews

The story of Bodie, an abandoned mining town in the California desert, knits together the violent and mysterious events of 1879 and two Oregon sisters in 1993. The sisters, who share the same vivid dream set in Bodie, seek professional guidance from an academic therapist-hypnotist to understand their dream. This meeting triggers a series of events clandestine meetings in Washington, DC, murder and the suspense-filled tracking of the sisters by a hired killer in the abandoned town of Bodie. Interwoven in the story of the sisters is the psychic or intuitive ability of one of the sisters and her daughter.
The descriptions are vivid with convincing characters and active dialogue. Bodie is an engrossing story which moves at a good pace. The historical background of Bodie is well researched and provides intriguing twists to the story. However, I found it somewhat confusing to switch back and forth in chapters with different characters, settings and times. The author’s approach to the story does seem to require this chapter switching. Perhaps it would be helpful to readers like me who get confused if the chapter headings (which give dates and location) more clearly and boldly announced the new context. Other concerns include point of view changes within a chapter and some need for basic editing.
Despite these issues, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The complexities of the plot provide an absorbing read.
I loved, loved, loved this book. While reading it I got near to the end and I didn't want to read anymore because I didn't want it to end. This author knows how to lay out a plot, introduce characters that you'll remember and keep you wanting to stay up until the break of dawn to read.

Two sisters, unbeknownst to each other, were having the same reoccurring dream of a murder in Bodie, California. The two sisters, Lara and Lainy had survived foster care but knew next to nothing of their family's past. There memory was regressed by a therapist and then their world turned upside down. There destination was a ghost town in California where they wanted to find out more about this unsolved murder that took place years ago. That meeting with the therapist/psychic started a chain reaction of hired guns chasing them, mining executives fearful of their cover-ups and the therapist wanting to tell their story. It is a whirlwind of excitement throughout this book.

I love the characters, the paranormal aspect, the history and the well written plot that is based on a true story. I would recommend this book to everyone from 8 to 80.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.
Visited Bodie a few years ago and was mystified by the place. Thought this book would add to the good memories but it missed the mark for me.
My book club recently read this book. I enjoyed it thoroughly! I could hardly put it down! I has you hook from the first page to the last! Very well written! knowing a member of the authors family and living in Oregon made it even more fun and a bit personal. The research by the author seems extensive and tied to present in an intriguing style. I can't wait to read more from this author, Anne Sweazy-kulju you nailed this one!
Could not put this book down! She kept pulling me along and twisting me about as she drove relentlessly to the end, an end we know is going to happen. . .though not quite as expected. Synchronicity, parapsychology and present day corruption take you on a trip through a world, a time that sometimes leaves you wondering just where you are.
