Book 2 in The Phoenix Project Series

Trying to escape from the Phoenix District got Andie two things, a broken arm and a broken spirit. While Andie feels like she might be losing it, she has a bit of hope to hold onto. Everyone else in her family may have been taken away from her or have gone missing, but she has Lina. So she’s going to do what Burton Crane ordered her to do and genetically alter the Residents brains so they’re the cooperative, docile humans he requested.

While analyzing the Residents’ genetic data, Andie finds that there’s more than one District. And while Andie tries to hold on tight to the few things she has control over, Crane has one last surprise for her.

This is the Reformation. Society has been fractured and this is just the beginning of changes to come.

This is the second book in The Phoenix Project Series, you might be a bit lost if you jump in at this point.

Love the book and the series, can't wait to start reading the third book )
I enjoyed this novel so much. It's such a smooth continuation of an already intriguing story. It answers some questions we had in the first novel and it engages us to look for answers in the next novel. You can see how the author has grown and matured in her writing style since the first book as well. I'm anxiously anticipating the 3rd installation so I can get some answers!
Great read
The Reformation (The Phoenix Project) by M. R. Pritchard the economy has gone into recession and now there is only one thing left to do. Fracture society and build a new society on top of the old. It is a dystopia fiction at its finest. The main character Andromeda is a mother and worries about small things like a normal person would. She tries to protect her daughter from this upcoming society.
Like the first novel in this trilogy I finished reading over night. A good solid read.

This time we find Andie's limits being tested whilst trying to hold what remains of family together in a post-apocalyptic US. Damaged from her experiences of the last novel Andie must find a way to build herself back up whilst the hope of escaping is destroyed. Manipulated at every turn, Andie battles the demons of her past and tries to secure a forever slipping future for herself.

Pro's

Motherhood
Like the first novel I like the combo of the heroine also being a mother and portrayal of the sacrifices/ decisions being made because of that identity.

Science
Scientific aspects are handled quite like the first novel, conveyed clearly without being dumb down excessively.

Andie
Bad things happen realistically and often to poor old Andie. Thanking the author for having a flawed protagonist who isn't superficially so, and allows her to be weak and find her own strength again.

Con's

Hunger Games Links -
Bits of this novel reminded me of Hunger Games, the Districts also being called districts, the main antagonist Crane is given rotting flowered breath, which reminded me of the Rose/blood description of President Snow in HG. Braided hair scene and going on "tour of the districts", sleeping/nightmare situation simliar to Katniss/Peeta etc. Not entirely a bad thing but they stuck out to me as I was reading.

Sam -
It almost felt like he was conveniently put in to be the babysitter, I would have liked to see a bit more development on his character and the relationship with Andie. So much emphasis was put on the past in the first novel I expected a bit more of him in this one .

Overall the start was a little slow, however the pace picks up and leaves you on the right on the edge as new developments unravel.

Hoping for a third!
Hmmm I will say that this story moves on with many surprises. Some with make u stop n think, some with fill you with pleasure and some will... well frankly, tick you off. I felt all aspects of emotion in reading this and the first book. The author is extremely talented at not only evoking ever emotion available from his readers, but he also can create a story so original that you never know what he has prepared for you around each and every corner. I never give away kernels of info in my reviews but I have to say, once I read the last paragraph, I was p***ed!
The USA is a mess, and Adam Waters’ CIA contact is late to a meet. The man shows up late, fatally wounded, and announces that the Reformation has begun. With bombs and missiles rewriting American history, Adam starts up the train and speeds back to the Phoenix District, near NYC, where he works undercover as the District Runner and as a rising star in security.

Andi, a geneticist who is forcefully encamped within the Phoenix District, is appalled at the role she’s thrust into within the settlement. After her last attempt to escape, the ruthless leader had her beaten to within an inch of her life. He exiled her to a farm within the district to heal out of sight and to reconsider. Her body is slow to heal, her mind even slower, but somehow she holds it together for her young daughter.

Fortunately for Andi, she’s not disposable. Her brilliant genetic insights are solving problems that have been on the table for years. With each solution, her standing rises in the community, elevating her to The Matchmaker, a position she despises. Trapped, her only solution is to survive and protect her daughter.

What a great read! Each scene fed eagerly into the next, like a freight train gathering speed. Twists and cliffhangers abound. I admired Andi’s passion, guilt, and humanity, while at the same time admiring Adam’s warrior toughness and surprising tenderness toward her. This is a guarantee. Andi and Adam’s story will keep you turning the pages.
