This is a true story of a girl growing up with a spiritual gift she does not fully understand. Written as a guide to her grandchildren, who also exhibit the Gift, this book seeks to help them understand what God had given them and what they are supposed to do with it. It exposes pitfalls and awkward problems involved with the Gift and it tells of the wonderful blessings that go along with it. Designed as a guide, the book also shares a lifetime of paranormal experiences.

Growing Up Weird Confessions of a Closet Medium (Audible Audio Edition) Karen Crumley Francesca Townes Karen and James Crumley Books

Karen Crumley's account of her experiences as a medium are intriguing, interesting and most definitely believable. However, the entire book was seriously lacking in any sort of professional editing, with countless spelling and grammatical errors, improperly formatted sentences and at times difficulty comprehending the message Crumley was trying to convey due to an inexperienced writing style. This is a shame since she seemed to bring validity to the world of psychics/mediums.

I was impressed with the bravery and sense of humor displayed in the face of something unknown and to most people, quite scary, and Crumley's dedication to helping nurture her grandkids' "gifts" to eliminate from them some of the challenges she faced most of her life is admirable. I only wish so much time hadn't been spent reminding the reader of her belief in Jesus and that her gifts were all in God's control...it was almost as if she felt a compulsion to convince her audience of her faith.

I would surely have given this read 4-4.5 stars if it weren't for the deplorable editing and having gone a bit overboard with the "God stuff"; it really was interesting and refreshing without a single hint of any of the fraud often seen with self-proclaimed mediums.

Growing Up Weird Confessions of a Closet Medium (Audible Audio Edition) Karen Crumley Francesca Townes Karen and James Crumley Books Reviews

I really like this book, it was fun to read. Karen Crumley is for real. She takes her gift very seriously as she knows it comes from God. She is religious but doesn't dwell on it so much in the book. It took her along time to understand her gift. Now her grandchildren will need her as they also have the gift.
A rather pleasant, unpretentious book. I actually liked it quite a bit and appreciated the author's candor. I cannot remember reading in the past many books about what it feels like to grow with this special gift. I would like to hope that this book would inspire other possessors of this gift to share their growing up experience with the rest of us.
I could not put this book down. It was written so well. The author is sincere and genuine throughout the book telling her life story about being psychic. Never once did she charge for help or solicit to do readings, rather it is about HER experiences on a day to day basis with the unknown. She will be a great help to all her gifted grandchildren to guide and advise them as they discover their own gifts. Absolutely. Get this book.
Mediumship and all things paranormal are most fascinating subjects for me. If you can be a paranormal hobbyist, then that's what I am. It rankles that I have no "gift" whatsoever but that doesn't stop me from tearing through the writings of John Edward (author of Crossing Over) and similar books. I'm keenly interested in not just the work of but also in the life of mediums. I deeply admire and am fascinated by mediums like John Edward and Lisa Williams. Unlike many other famous mediums, Edward and Williams seem to me to be sincere, genuinely gifted, and devoted to doing only good things in the world.

This book is every bit as fascinating as I'd hoped. It is less a biography and more a collection of personal experiences. It's my interest in the personal experiences of a psychic medium that draws me most to this type of book.

Being a non-theist I was at first put off by the book's dedication to Christ, and although the book is rife with biblical references and shows the author's deep religious devotion, it remains a fascinating book about mediumship and psychic ability. The author's religious beliefs seem to be such an integral and genuine part of who she is rather than a way to sugar-coat her book for the world. Based on the book, the author seems to live her religious beliefs, not just spout them. This makes what she has to share about mediumship that much more compelling.

"Growing Up Weird" had exactly what I wanted out of a book written by a medium. It is a deeply personal glimpse at what it's like to have the gift of mediumship and psychic ability.
This is a great book. Read it in it's entirety in one day. I just couldn't put it down. Her story did jump a round a little from her youth to her adult life, but was a interesting book. I especially enjoyed how her gift continued to evolve throughout the years and how this gift can be present in other family members. This was a fun read and I would highly recommend this book to believers and non-believers. I hope there is a sequel cause I will read it!
This is the autobiography of Karen Crumley, a retired teacher with a degree in microbiology who first became aware of her sensitivity to the spiritual realm in childhood. With time, that sensitivity expanded into a multitude of areas and she now says she sees similar sensitivity developing in her grandchildren. She doesn't hold séances or hunt ghosts but spirits don't seem to have much trouble finding her.

As the title indicates, Ms. Crumley says she was in the closet for most of her life, wanting to be able to share what she was experiencing but holding back for fear of social rejection. With age and increased understanding, she has become more comfortable with her abilities and less concerned about what others think of her.

She gives credit for her "gifts" to God. However, unlike so many other authors on this subject, she does not boast of having privileged insight about the nature of God or of having all the answers about the afterlife. Her experiences seem to be related with openness and honesty.

The book has little need of editing and it moves at a comfortably brisk pace. I enjoyed reading it.
Karen let's us know how she felt during the times she shares with the reader. She tends to jump back and forth in her life to relate her experiences. She never mentions any books or seminars she may have sought out to learn from. Yet she mentioned a ghost hunting show she watched. It left me wondering if she looked for information any where during her life to get some help with her gift.
